Materials Handler

Department : Handcare Production

Responsible to: Production Supervisor

Main purpose of the role :

The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient handling of materials in the warehouse. This includes wrapping pallets, collecting rejects from assembly lines, weighing scrap, and sending it to the recycle centre. The Material Handler must also be able to despatch and receive materials, book in items, use Sys Pro software, operate a wrapping machine and pallet trucks and forklift, read, and follow work instructions, conduct cycle counts and stock takes, inspect warehouse equipment, consolidate stock, transfer stock between warehouses, and prepare tools for service. The Material Handler must have good work ethics and be able to work independently and as part of a team. 

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Load and unload trucks with materials 
  • Wrap pallets of materials 
  • Collect rejects from assembly lines. 
  • Weigh scrap and send it to the recycle Centre. 
  • Dispatch and receive materials. 
  • Book in items using Sys Pro software. 
  • Operate a wrapping machine and pallet trucks and forklift. 
  • Read and follow work instructions. 
  • Conduct cycle counts and stock takes. 
  • Inspect warehouse equipment. 
  • Consolidate stock. 
  • Transfer stock between warehouses 
  • Prepare tools for service. 

Essential Criteria

Education/Qualifications 

  • No formal qualifications required. 
  • Ability to fluently speak, understand, read, and write English.  
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions. 
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. 

Knowledge/Experience 

  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.  

Skills/Abilities 

  • Able to lift and move goods and materials within HSE guidelines

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Strong work ethic 
  • Willingness to learn new skills. 

Desirable Criteria

Education/Qualifications 

  • Certified training in the safe use and operation of materials handling equipment 

Knowledge/Experience 

  • Ability to operate a wrapping machine and pallet trucks and forklift.
