Senior Buyer

Areas of responsibility:

  • Manage and support sourcing for new projects from concept through to completion, ensuring a high performing supply chain is in place to meet requirements 
  • Issuing RFQs, drawing releases, analysing quotes, and setting up new part replenishment profiles 
  • Identifying areas of improvement and savings opportunities; through continuous improvement activities, benchmarking, value engineering & optimising replenishment methods 
  • Analyse Bills of Material and Technical Drawings to understand key manufacturing requirements 
  • Support existing Buyers to resolve component shortages, manage obsolescence & replacement parts to ensure continuity of supply for existing product ranges. 
  • Help to establish alternative sources for existing components and support dual sourcing strategies 
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of strategic stock consistent within inventory management guidelines. 
  • Review and maintain electronics component risk register and ensure risks are clearly communicated and mitigation actions are taken 
  • Provide procurement support for reshoring and reengineering projects to increase efficiencies and achieve cost savings. 
  • Help to facilitate tender projects and negotiations in key areas of spend to achieve best value for money for the organisation. 

Essential Criteria

Education/Qualifications 

  • Degree educated (in an applicable discipline) 

Knowledge/Experience 

  • 5 years+ experience in a procurement role (strategic sourcing) 
  • Manufacturing Experience 
  • Understanding of technical information, drawings and BOM’s (Bills of Material) 
  • Understanding of NPD (New Product Development) Processes 
  • Working knowledge of sourcing Electromechanical, electronics and/or mechanical engineered products 
  • Procurement ‘best practice’ and disciplines 

Skills/Abilities 

  • Ability to manage complex sourcing projects (to an agreed timeline) 
  • Commercial acumen and Negotiation 
  • Able to prioritise and organise project workloads, schedules, and tasks 
  • Experience of using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems 

Desirable Criteria

  • CIPS qualified or studying towards it (strongly desired) 
  • Far East supply chains 
  • Reshoring and reengineering projects 
  • Auditing Suppliers 
  • MRP Systems
