What is PVDF and Why is it key in the Chemical industry?

PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) is a high-performance thermoplastic polymer widely used in the chemical industry thanks to its exceptional resistance, durability, and safety properties.

PVDF Properties: Strength and High Performance

This material stands out due to a unique combination of characteristics that make it an ideal material for demanding environments:

  • High chemical resistance
    PVDF is compatible with strong acids, bases, organic solvents, oxidizers, and halogens without degrading or losing its properties.
  • Excellent thermal stability
    It maintains its mechanical properties across a wide temperature range, approximately from -40 °C to 150 °C, and even higher in specific applications.
  • High resistance to UV radiation and weathering
    It does not easily degrade when exposed to sunlight or harsh environmental conditions, making it ideal for outdoor applications.

    It combines rigidity with flexibility and impact resistance.

Use of PVDF in the EcoSpray Station

At Brightwell, PVDF is used in a wide range of components, but on this occasion we would like to highlight the advantages of this material in the EcoSpray Station:

  • Venturi system injector: This is the central component through which chemicals flow. Its construction in PVDF ensures maximum chemical resistance and long service life, minimizing maintenance needs.
  • Product check valve: Unlike the water check valve, this component is in constant contact with chemicals, requiring a highly resistant material such as PVDF.

Additionally, its removable design allows for quick and cost-effective maintenance, as there is no need to replace the entire structure.

Compared to other materials such as PTFE  —very resistant but more expensive and mechanically softer— or PVC —more economical but not suitable for strong solvents or high temperatures—, PVDF offers the best balance between chemical resistance, durability, safety, and cost, making it the most efficient choice for demanding industrial applications.
